Throughout the year, Tonks became increasingly miserable, and as Remus delved further and further into Voldemort's underground society of werewolves, she became increasingly worried. She reversed the spells and the two jumped off together she then fixed Harry's nose, which had been broken by Malfoy earlier. This proved advantageous, as Draco Malfoy had immobilised Harry Potter and rendered him invisible Tonks, however, has noticed Harry had not left the train and went in after him. In September of 1996, Tonks was stationed at Hogwarts Castle to provide additional security for the students, alongside Dawlish, Savage and Proudfoot. This led to a long period of depression: her abilities as a Metamorphmagus suffered, leading to her hair falling, lanky and mousy-brown her Patronus changed, becoming a wolf and she often acted extremely melancholy. To her deep regret, however, he turned down her advances, convinced that he was too old, poor and dangerous for her. Īfter more than a year working very closely with Remus Lupin, she began to fall in love with him. At her practical exams, Tonks got top marks in Concealment and Disguise due to her having been born a Metamorphmagus, though she nearly failed Stealth and Tracking due to her clumsiness. Following her completion of the seventh year at Hogwarts, Tonks began her further studies at the Ministry of Magic, including practical Defence and character and aptitude tests. Tonks did quite well on her OWLs in Potions, Charms, Transfiguration and Defence Against the Dark Arts, and continued into the NEWT levels in those classes. She did not get along well with her Head of House, and was consequently not made a Prefect, as she lacked certain qualities such as the ability to behave herself. Tonks started at Hogwarts in September 1983, where she was Sorted into Hufflepuff House. Tonks resented her mother naming her "Nymphadora", and looked up to her father, approving of his slovenly habits. She was their only child, raised in a small yet comfortable house in the countryside, with an aspidistra growing in a corner of the sitting-room and a large pond in the front yard. “So…that means when I’m in fifth grade, right? Like, in the second half of fifth grade, after my eleventh birthday?”Īnd I tell her, not for the last time, “We’ll see.Nymphadora Tonks was born in 1972 to the Muggle-born wizard Ted and his pure-blood wife, Andromeda (Black). She nods at my reasoning, but it doesn’t stop her from asking the question.
#HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE PC GAME WILL NOT START SERIES#
I told her I think she’ll love them as much as I do…but when she’s old enough to understand and appreciate not just the first book, but the series as a whole.

She asks me if I think she’ll like the books. I’ve had more than a few conversations with my seven-year-old about why I’m having her wait to read Harry Potter. Maybe she’ll try it again when she’s in high school or college, and she’ll love it then. I have a niece who tried it at eleven years old and couldn’t get into it even the first book was too scary for her.

But as in all things, it depends on your child. My pediatrician suggested that eleven and older is a good age to start.

In the case of Harry Potter, the main character begins as an eleven-year-old and ends up as a seventeen-year-old. So when is the “magic age” to read Harry Potter? In general, kids like to read about characters a couple of years older than them. For the seven-year-old, the eight-year-old, the nine-year-old, and even the ten-year-old and beyond, the series might be better appreciated when read later on. Harry is seventeen and is searching for and destroying parts of Voldemort’s soul. Then, she gets to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is pretty much a Young Adult book. Today, the seven-year-old who begins the series giggling over booger-flavored jelly beans and exclaiming over the wonders of Diagon Ally might find themselves disoriented in the middle of the series when reading about moody, lovesick Harry, deaths of beloved characters, and rampant evil and killing.
